Peter Hempenstall

Peter Hempenstall is an historian and biographer who has taught in universities in Australia and New Zealand. He was Professor of History at Canterbury University from 1998-2008.  His three biographies – about an Australian bishop, A German statesman and a New Zealand anthropologist all have family history at their core and his latest book is about his grandfather, Edward Nugent Hempenstall, a hotel broker and auctioneer in Rockhampton, Queensland.  Tying history, biography and family history together is the complicated task the 2024 RAWA workshop will consider.
