Coleen Clare

Coleen Clare is a Kiwi living in Melbourne. She is a lesbian feminist engaged in the provision of social housing for older women, after a long career advocating for women and children. Coleen experiences the joys and traumas of a large family, now extending to four great grandchildren. She has lived and worked in Aotearoa, Australia and Samoa. 

In 2025 To celebrate her 80th birthday Coleen launched her debut novel Minoan Footsteps published by Spinifex independent feminist press. Her novel begins in Crete amongst the ruins of ancient peaceful matriarchal civilisations and unfolds in a mystery.  On a tour her six female characters find themselves caught up in the perils of casual male violence. The reader follows their travels, adventures and misadventures to find out what the fate of each of them will be.
