John Curry
John’s connection to Banks Peninsula stretches back to the mid-nineteenth century. On his mother’s side he is a descendant of James and Hannah Wright who arrived in Akaroa in 1842, and on his father’s side he is a great grandson of David Curry who arrived two decades later.
John passed the first five years of his life in Kaituna Valley onBanks Peninsula before his family moved to Irwell on the edge of Lake Ellesmere. He left New Zealand in his early twenties, spending most of his adult life in Australia.
John returned to live on Banks Peninsula in 2015 when he and his wife Rosalyn purchased a small farm overlooking Akaroa Harbour. John is now retired but is active in local organisations including The Friends of Akaroa Museum.
John is the author of From Armagh to Akaroa: The story of the Currys who settled on Banks Peninsula.
